As a consequence of her place of birth, she is frequently referred to as Elizabeth of Rhuddlan. Her mother was to die when she was eight years of age.
Elizabeth of Rhuddlan (also Elizabeth Plantagenet) (7 August 1282, Rhuddlan Castle 5 May 1316, Quendon) was the eighth daughter of Edward I of England and Eleanor of Castile. Of all of her siblings, she was closest to her younger brother Edward II of England, as they were only two years apart in age.

Elizabeth of Rhuddlan was the eighth and youngest daughter of King Edward I of England and Queen Eleanor of Castile. She was closely bonded with her younger brother, King Edward II, as they were close in age. Elizabeth’s first marriage was to John I, Count of Holland, but the union ended with his death in 1299 without producing heirs.
