29 de mar. de 2021 · Chiron was the most famous centaur in Greek mythology. He was also very different from others of his kind. The centaurs were largely portrayed as brutal, lustful creatures. Although they possessed great wisdom, they were more often shown abducting young women, threatening travelers, and drinking in excess.
27 de ago. de 1996 · I had read a review of the Centaur prior to purchasing the book, so I was prepared for the mythological chapters. Otherwise it could have been very confusing. However, true to John Updike's clarity of emotions and descriptive passages and the feeling I get that he understood the human animal, I am thoroughly enjoying the book.

The head, arms and torso of a centaur were human and joined at the waist to the body and legs of a horse. Centaurs represented barbarism and unbridled chaos and were frequently represented in Greek architectural sculpture and pottery decoration.
