This is a list of United Kingdom general elections (elections for the UK House of Commons) since the first in 1802.The members of the 1801–1802 Parliament had been elected to the former Parliament of Great Britain and Parliament of Ireland, before being co-opted to serve in the first Parliament of the United Kingdom, so that Parliament is not included in the table below.

The prime minister can call the next general election any time between now and 17 December 2024 – which is exactly five years since parliament first met after the last general election, in 2019.

The timetable is set out in the Parliamentary Elections Rules in Schedule 1 of the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended. Dissolution and issue of new writs is taken to be day zero. Writs are deemed to have been delivered to the returning officer on day one.
