A full ISI Inspection in May 2022 judged all aspects of boarding at Shiplake College to be 'excellent', the highest possible grade of achievement. Comments from the boarding inspectors included: 'Boarders say that boarding encourages them to get on well, support and tolerate each other.
The College holds free taster events and workshops for pupils considering joining Shiplake. Pupils need not be formally registered with us in order to book onto one of these days. Booking forms will be available on this page as dates are confirmed.
Shiplake College is an independent boarding and day school for just over 500 pupils aged 11 to 18. There has been a co-educational Sixth Form since 1998 and in September 2023 girls joined in Year 7 as the College goes fully co-educational. Flexi, weekly and full boarding is available from Year 9.
Shiplake College does not select on the grounds of academic ability alone. Applications are welcome from all pupils who have the potential to make the most of the wealth of opportunities that Shiplake can offer. Shiplake College’s aim is to encourage applications from a diverse range of backgrounds.
The College prides itself on implementing innovative multi-sensory teaching methods in the classroom wherever possible. This is achieved by incorporating various forms of modern technology, recruiting passionate staff with a natural ability to inspire young people, and challenging our teachers to use various learning methods to suit every pupil.
The College's sixth Headmaster, Gregg Davies, joined Shiplake in 2004 and during the course of the next 15 years saw the College through a period of transformation and success. Greater academic rigour and investment in energetic, forward-thinking and technology-embracing staff elicited a relentless upward trend in exam results and value-added scores.
