Established in 1907, Downe House is a traditional boarding and day school with a modern approach for girls aged 11-18. Situated in a beautiful Berkshire 110-acre woodland estate, Downe House offers family-friendly boarding balanced with an exceptional range of opportunities. Downe House has been a Microsoft Showcase School since 2018.
At Downe House we have strong academic values. When these are combined with excellent teachers, a broad curriculum and superbly equipped classrooms, each girl is inspired to explore the widest range of subject combinations and achieve her fullest potential.
Downe House provides individual care for every international pupil, starting with advice to guide you through the international student application process. Overseas girls who come to Downe House receive special support with English as an additional language (if appropriate) as well as flights, travel and all aspects of school life, both pastoral and academic.
Girls joining Downe House aged 13+ will move into one of our five Upper School Houses alongside the current pupils who have progressed through the Lower School. These Houses act as the anchor House for each girl’s entire time at Downe House; girls in all year groups compete for and support their attached Upper School Houses.
