30 de ene. de 1992 · Supernatural events are ascribed to the miraculous goodness of God, not to evil magic. “The Holy Sinner” is something of a curiosity, certainly not a powerful exploration of the roots of evil, unlike Mann’s previous novel “Doctor Faustus”. Mann was a major writer, but as another reviewer points out this is one of his minor works.

J C E Hitchcock. A German Oedipus. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 November 2019. Thomas Mann’s original German title for this novel was “Der Erwählte”, meaning “The Chosen One”. For some reason, however, when Helen Lowe-Porter translated it into English she chose to call her version “The Holy Sinner”, and the name has stuck.
