When however Lascelles changed his plans and bought Goldsborough Hall, the new house was demolished and the south range of the completed stables was converted into Plompton Hall.

Lascelles himself was returned for Northallerton at a by-election in 1702, presumably as a Whig. He was an inactive Member, and did not stand for Parliament again. He died on 5 Sept. 1734. His son Henry and two of his grandsons represented Northallerton in the Georgian period. 2.
