For years many of the cadets came from northern Illinois, but enrollment broadened when the academy moved to the shores of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 1915.

The monument marking the 10th anniversary of the closure of Northwestern Military and Naval Academy stands on Shadow Lane in the town of Linn. A plaque erected in 2005 on the 10th anniversary of the academy's closure reads: "Though the building may be gone, the spirit lives on."
