The night of 28 March 1944 was to largely define Arthur Nebe’s role in history. SS-Gruppenführer Heinrich Müller, chief of the Gestapo, instructed him to select 50 of the recaptured POWs from the recent escape from Stalag Luft III to be executed. The command came directly from Adolf Hitler and was known as the Sagan Order.

Arthur Nebe had a high rank of SS-Gruppenführer, and was also the general of the German police. The reason for the execution was his alleged involvement in the assassination attempt on Hitler’s life, specifically in the famous conspiracy by Claus von Stauffenberg in 1944.

Arthur Nebe (13. marraskuuta 1894 – 21. maaliskuuta 1945) oli berliiniläinen poliisivirkailija 1920-luvulla, korkea-arvoinen natsi ja SS-kenraaliluutnantti. Hän kuului sekä SA:han että SS:ään ja oli Interpolin presidentti vuosina 1941–1942; Interpol oli tänä aikana natsien johtama järjestö, ja useimmat maat olivat vetäytyneet sen alaisesta yhteistyöstä.
Arthur Nebe fue un alto oficial alemán de la SS y de la Kriminalpolizei durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Murió ahorcado por la propia SS debido a su implicación en el intento de asesinato de Hitler el 20 de julio de 1944.
