Michael Aspel did various odd jobs before he became a newsreader for the BBC in 1957. He also started appearing in a BBC Children’s Hour serial titled ‘Counterspy’, which was produced by BBC Wales. Within a short time, he also became one of the regular newsreaders appearing on BBC National television.
