Louie Bluie shares a surprising amount in common with Crumb, Zwigoff's 1994 masterpiece, in that it follows an idiosyncratic artist obsessed with his own sexual fetishes and in love with old music. Of course, Armstrong, born in 1909, is a practitioner of "old music," and one of the most fascinating things about the film is how it gets you to reconsider the blues.
