The cast of characters are well known: chiefly William Bligh, the cruel ship’s captain who fell foul of a mutiny led by Fletcher Christian, the sensitive master’s mate.

Several left on the Bounty had to be physically restrained from joining Bligh in his apparently doomed vessel, which was so heavily overloaded that seawater lapped over the gunnels and it looked set to sink at any moment.
