Thomas Pride, Captain of the After-guard, the survivor of the two Colour-Serjeants who supported Mr. Boyes in the gallant rush which he made in advance of the attack, is also recommended for the Victoria Cross for his conduct on this occasion. In Dec., 1648, acting on the orders of the army council, he carried out Pride's Purge, expelling from Parliament 143 members (mostly Presbyterians) on the ground that they were royalist sympathizers.
Death and Will. Thomas Pride died on 23 October 1658 at his residence of Worcester House in Surrey and was buried on 2 November. [28] Under the terms of his will, made just 11 days earlier on 12th October, he left token amounts of £5 each to his two married children Thomas and Elizabeth. [5] Transcription of Will.
27 de may. de 2024 · Personal details. Thomas Pride was born in Ashcott, Somerset, son of William Pride, a local tradesman. His exact date of birth is unknown but he was apprenticed to a City of London merchant in January 1622 and since the normal age for this was between 14 and 17 years old, he was probably born between 1606 and 1608. Colonel Thomas Pride was central to one of the English Civil War’s key events: the arrest and exclusion of 140 Members of Parliament at Westminster in December 1648. Those that remained in the House of Commons – the Rump – voted to bring King Charles I to trial, resulting in the first and only public execution of a British Monarch.
6 de abr. de 2015 · Thomas Pride died in 1658 after a short illness and was buried on or near his Surrey estate. (5) At the Restoration his property was confiscated by the Crown and he was posthumously declared a traitor. His body was ordered to be exhumed and (like those of Cromwell, Ireton and Bradshaw) hanged in chains at Tyburn.
