Lord William was made a Knight of the Garter in 1741. His son, William Henry Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland was Prime Minister for two Terms. Death. Sir William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland, passed away in 1762 and was buried in the Ormond Vault, in Henry VII's chapel, Westminster Abbey, London, England. Sources
26 de abr. de 2022 · William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland KG (1 March 1709 – 1 May 1762), styled Viscount Woodstock from 1709 to 1715 and Marquess of Titchfield from 1715 to 1726, was a British peer. Portland was the son of Henry Bentinck, 1st Duke of Portland and his wife Elizabeth Noel, daughter of Wriothesley Baptist Noel, 2nd Earl of Gainsborough.

In 1990, after the extinction of the male line from his half-brother the 1st Duke of Portland, his descendant Henry Bentinck, 7th Count Bentinck became the 11th Earl of Portland. One of his sons, Captain John Albert Bentinck , Royal Navy , of Terrington St Clement in Norfolk, a Count of the Empire, founded the line of Bentinck of Indio in the parish of Bovey Tracey in Devon.
2 de sept. de 2015 · William Bentinck was the youngest son of the second Duke of Portland, and was born on 14 April 1738. He attended Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford (where he informally added ‘Cavendish’ to his surname) before undertaking a 'Grand Tour' of Europe, during the latter stages of which he was elected MP for Weobley, Herefordshire, through his family’s interests.
