LEHAND, MARGUERITE (MISSY)Officially, Marguerite "Missy" LeHand (September 13, 1898–July 31, 1944) was Franklin D. Roosevelt's confidential secretary from 1920 until 1941.
FDR signed legislation passed by Congress which commissioned an 18,000 ton C3 cargo vessel as the S.S. Marguerite LeHand, which was christened in Pascagoula, Mississippi. As the ship departed on her maiden voyage, in March 1945, she ran into the U.S. Coast Guard tender Magnolia, which sank in minutes and killed a guardsman.

BTW, from the Lehand family history perspective, Marguerite Alice "Missy" LeHand was born in Potsdam, New York on Sep 13, 1896 to Daniel J. LeHand and Mary Jane (Graffin) LeHand, who were the children of Irish Catholic immigrants.
