31 de may. de 2023 · Five days after First Lady Caroline Harrison's death, the Trenton Evening Times predicted that her daughter, Mary McKee, would make a good successor, “for she has been accustomed to assist[ing] Mrs. Harrison at all times in entertaining” McKee had also occasionally served in her mother's stead, beginning with the Harrisons’ first White House New Year's Day reception in 1890.
Mary Harrison McKee had married James Robert McKee in November 1884 and the couple had 2 children, Benjamin McKee (known as Baby) and Mary Lodge McKee. Her mother had always suffered with respiratory problems and Mary McKee helped her with the duties of First Lady, helping to organize White House Parties and social events.
