When he becomes 15 years old, Kolokotronis joins the Armatoles, a militia employed by the Turks to battle against the klephts, groups of Greek mercenaries that lived in the mountains.
Theodoros Kolokotronis died in 1843 in Athens, shortly after the wedding of his son Konstantinos. Kolokotronis was finally able to rest and learned to write to chronicle his many adventures.
