Braxton Bragg (1817–1876) Braxton Bragg was one of many well-known West Point graduates who sided with their native southland at the start of the Civil War. As a major general, Bragg first distinguished himself at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee, where he commanded the Confederate right, capturing thousands of prisoners and many guns.
Braxton Bragg (1817-1876) Born in Warrenton, North Carolina in 1817, Bragg graduated from West Point in 1837. His brother and father serviced his educational pursuits prior to him being a cadet. Unfortunately, Bragg’s mother had served time in prison when he was a young boy. This fact burdened Bragg greatly as a young man and into West Point.
