  2. John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (14 April 1769 – 3 July 1820) was a Scottish nobleman and peer. He was the eldest son of John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Mary Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. He lived mainly on his estates in Durham.

  3. On 20 July 1736, Strathmore married Joan (or Jean) Nicholson, daughter of James Nicholson of West Rainton, county Durham at Houghton-le-Spring. His paternal grandmother was Mary Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

From 1 October 1767 and until his death, he sat as a Scottish Representative peer in the House of Lords. On 7 March 1776, Lord Strathmore died of tuberculosis whilst at sea on his way to Portugal.
