When Katharina von Kleve was born on 25 May 1417, in Cleve, Cleves, her father, Adolph I Of Cleves, was 43 and her mother, Mary of Burgundy Valois-Burgundy, was 23. She married Arnold van Egmont on 26 January 1430, in Kleve, Rhineland, Prussia, Germany. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters.

  3. Its 157 miniatures are by the gifted Master of Catherine of Cleves (active ca. 1435-60), who is named after this book. The Master of Catherine of Cleves is considered the finest and most original illuminator of the medieval northern Netherlands, and this manuscript is his masterpiece.
