Ulisse Aldrovandi. Ulisse Aldrovandi ( Ulysses Aldrovandus) (n. 11 septembrie 1522 - d. 4 mai 1605) a fost medic italian și naturalist, reprezentant al Renașterii, unul din întemeietorii zoologiei moderne.
Ulisse Aldrovandi se narodil v roce 1522 do vznešené italské rodiny. Otcem byl notář a tajemník Senátu, hrabě Tesseo Aldrovandi. Začal se studiem matematiky na Univerzita v Bologni, ale kvůli finančním problémům v rodině, musel studium přerušit a od roku 1536 pracoval jako účetní v Bologni, později v Brescii.

The Bolognese naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi was a prolific writer, polymath, and prodigious collector who amassed the largest collection of naturalia in sixteenth-century Europe, as well as hundreds of colored drawings detailing them. Many of these drawings found their way into his illustrated publications, most of which were published posthumously.

In his own time Aldrovandi enjoyed wide recognition for his activity as a collector of natural curiosities and for his extensive library. In 1561, he became the first professor of natural history at the University of Bologna.
