Marlene Dumas nació el 3 de agosto de 1953, en Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica. Hija de Helena, ama de casa, y de Johannes, que dirigió un pequeño viñedo llamado Jacobsdal, de propiedad familiar desde 1916. Dumas se crio con sus hermanos mayores, Cornelis y Pieter, en un hogar protestante africano en Kuils River en Western Cape.

Marlene Dumas born 1953. Marlene Dumas was born in Cape Town, South Africa. From 1972 to 1975 she attended Cape Town University, where she studied for a BA in Visual Arts. She then completed her studies in Haarlem, in the Netherlands. She has lived and worked in Amsterdam since 1976.
