Henry Holiday (17 June 1839 – 15 April 1927) was an English Victorian painter of historical genre and landscapes, also a stained-glass designer, illustrator, and sculptor. Henry Holiday (1839–1927) Art UK is the operating name of the Public Catalogue Foundation, a charity registered in England and Wales (1096185) and Scotland (SC048601).
At the Royal Academy Schools, where he was a student from 1855 to 1857-8, Holiday was proud to describe himself as "a Pre-Raphaelite" (see his 'Reminiscences of My Life', 1914). His early work seems to have consisted mostly of landscapes executed in accordance with Pre-Raphaelite principles, and by about 1860 he had made the acquaintance of most of the Pre-Raphaelite circle.
Henry Holiday was a Londoner through and through - and a child of his time. He showed an early affinity for the arts and attended Leigh's art academy together with the representative of Socialist Realism, Frederick Walker. At the age of only 15, Holiday was accepted into the Royal Academy and quickly built up a network.
