Franz Kline (Wilkes-Barre, Pensilvânia, 23 de Maio de 1910 — Nova Iorque, 13 de Maio de 1962), foi um pintor americano do movimento artístico designado por expressionismo abstrato, que se centrava geograficamente em Nova Iorque e temporariamente nos anos 1940 e 1950.

Franz Kline was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a small coal-mining community that offered few opportunities for artistic development. His childhood was marred by a complicated relationship with his parents. His father, a saloon keeper, committed suicide in 1917, when Kline was only seven years old.
