Juan Ramón Jiménez belonged to the modernist literary movement, whose leader, Rubén Darío, helped arrange publication of Jiménez’s first poetry collection, Almas de violeta (1900) (Souls of Violet). His early poetry was inspired by German romanticism and French symbolism.
