He was one of the last survivors of the philosophes , and in this character he figures in many memoirs, such as Mme de Rémusat’s.
André Morellet (born March 7, 1727, Lyon—died Jan. 12, 1819, Paris) was a French economist and miscellaneous writer, an associate of the Philosophes and a contributor to the Encyclopédie. Educated by the Jesuits in Lyon and at the Sorbonne, Morellet took holy orders , but his designation of abbé was the chief thing clerical about him.
