Charibert was the father of Charlemagne's mother, Bertrada of Laon. Only Charibert's mother, Bertrada of Prüm, is known from contemporary records as the two signed the foundation act of the Abbey of Prüm in 721. The same year, also with his mother, he made a donation to the Abbey of Echternach. Charibert's father was possibly Martin of Laon.

Bertrada oder Bertha die Jüngere, Berta, Berhta, in anderen Sprachen auch Berthruda (* um 725; † 12./13. Juli 783 in Choisy im heutigen Département Oise), war die Tochter des Grafen Heribert von Laon und Enkelin von Bertrada der Älteren, den Stiftern der Abtei Prüm.
Bertrada of Laon (born between 710 and 727 – 12 July 783), also known as Bertrada the Younger or Bertha Broadfoot (cf. Latin: Regina pede aucae i.e. the queen with the goose-foot), was a Frankish queen. She was the wife of Pepin the Short and the mother of Charlemagne, Carloman and Gisela, plus five other children.
Bertrada gav 770 Karl stöd att förskjuta Himiltrude för att gifta sig med Desiderata av Lombardiet. Hon besökte själv Lombardiet inför äktenskapet, och gjorde samtidigt en pilgrimsfärd till Rom. När Karl försköt Desiderata året därpå ska Karl dock ha hamnat i konflikt med sin mor.
