Frederick II of Prussia. Frederick II ( German: Friedrich II; 24 January 1712 – 17 August 1786) was a King in Prussia (1740–1786) from the Hohenzollern dynasty. [1] As a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire, he was Frederick IV Margrave of Brandenburg. He was also the sovereign prince of the Principality of Neuchâtel.

Frederick William was born in Potsdam on 3 August 1770 as the son of Frederick William II of Prussia and Frederica Louisa of Hesse-Darmstadt. He was considered to be a shy and reserved boy, which became noticeable in his particularly reticent conversations, distinguished by the lack of personal pronouns.
Frederick William was born in the New Palace at Potsdam in Prussia on 18 October 1831. He was a scion of the House of Hohenzollern , rulers of Prussia, then the most powerful of the German states. Frederick's father, Prince Wilhelm , was the second son of King Frederick Wilhelm III and, having been raised in the military traditions of the Hohenzollerns, developed into a strict disciplinarian.
Burgdorf further suggests that Frederick William forcing his son to watch his lover's execution by sword, his suggestion that he should commit suicide, and his regimented schooling could explain Frederick II's militaristic decisions as King "as if the warlike royal hero wanted to prove to his dead father that he was a hard man." Frederick William was born in the Nassauischer Hof [ de] in Siegen [1] on 11 November 1706 [2] [note 1] as the only son of Fürst Frederick William Adolf of Nassau-Siegen and his first wife Landgravine Elisabeth Juliana Francisca of Hesse-Homburg. [4] He was baptised in Siegen on 18 November. [5] His mother died just one year after his birth.
