Henry XI was placed again as a Duke of Legnica and Frederick III was placed under house arrest until his death in Legnica eleven years later. Marriage and issue [ edit ] In Legnica on 3 March 1538, Frederick III married Katharina (14 April 1518 – 17 November 1581), daughter of Henry V, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Joachim Frederick was an efficient ruler. He ratified the former privileges of his cities and supported the development of crafts. In Oława he built fortifications and opened mints, thanks to the mines of Dzierżoniów and Srebrna Góra. Also, he established a pension for the unmarried daughter of the deposed Henry XI of Legnica.
Henry V, Duke of Legnica. Henry became the Duke of Legnica on 26 December 1278, succeeding his father Bolesław II. He soon appointed his younger brothers Bolko I and Bernard as co-rulers of Jawor and Lwówek. In addition, Henry kept the town of Środa Śląska, which he had acquired in 1277 in exchange for the release of Henry IV.
