Zev Siegl's family moved to Seattle from New York in 1956 when his father, the violinist Henry Siegl (1911-1997), accepted the job of concertmaster for the Seattle Symphony. In New York, Henry had played for the NBC Symphony under conductor Arturo Toscanini and served as concertmaster for George Balanchine's New York City Ballet.
