The exact height of Pepin the Short is unknown, but historians believe he was likely around 1.55 meters (5 feet 1 inch) tall. This would have been considered short for a man of his time, as the average height for men in the 8th century was around 1.65 meters (5 feet 5 inches).
Pepin's assumption of the crown and the title of Patrician of Rome were harbingers of his son's imperial coronation. He made the Carolingians the ruling dynasty of the Franks and the foremost power of Europe. Even at an estimated height of around 4 and a half feet tall, he proved to the medieval world that height did not matter.

In November 751 at Soissons, Pepin the Short was anointed as king by Archbishop Boniface. The timing was perfect. The papacy was in dire straits because of the Lombards who were constantly knocking on Rome's door and trying to kick butt. The pope needed Pepin. And Pepin was just the man for the job.
