House of Glücksburg. The House of Glücksburg (also spelled Glücksborg or Lyksborg), shortened from House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, is a collateral branch of the German House of Oldenburg, members of which have reigned at various times in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Greece, several northern German states, and the United Kingdom.

The House of Glücksburg, established on 6th July 1825, stands as a lineage stemming from the Dano-German House of Oldenburg.Over the years, members of this royal house have held reigns in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Schleswig-Holstein, Sweden, and Great Britain.
King Wilhelm gave the castle back to the family, and in 1871 Duke Karl, the then head of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, resided in the castle. Karl was the brother of Christian IX, who, in 1846, withdrew from the Danish state service because of his opposition to the policy of the "Eiderdänen" who favoured a total merger of Schleswig with Denmark.
