Coraline es una novela escrita por Neil Gaiman, reconocido autor británico conocido por su habilidad para crear historias fantásticas y oscuras. Publicada en el año 2002, Coraline es una de las obras más populares y aclamadas de Gaiman. La historia sigue a Coraline Jones, una niña de once años que se muda a una nueva casa con sus padres.
Los personajes secundarios (de ambos lados) son extravagantemente maravillosos y algunos, como el gato, muy característicos de Neil Gaiman. Los vecinos de Coraline tienen algo que los hace humanos pero a la vez dan repelús; dan la sensación de que lo que ves no es todo lo que hay.
