Infinite is the central antagonist of Sonic Forces. He is a jackal who used to be called the "Ultimate Mercenary". After his encounter with and defeat at the hands of Shadow the Hedgehog, Infinite became obsessed with the desire to prove him wrong about being weak.
The only known survivor of the Jackal Squad was their leader, Infinite, who tried exacting revenge on Shadow, only to be dealt a humiliating defeat. Infuriated by his own weakness, the captain assumed a new identity and fused with the finalized Phantom Ruby prototype in order to become stronger.
