Prince Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathearn KG KP GCB GCH PC (* 2. November 1767 in London ; † 23. Januar 1820 in Sidmouth , Devon ) war ein britischer Prinz aus dem Haus Hannover und der Vater Königin Victorias .

Edward Augustus married in 1818 Princess Victoria Duchess of Kent. He had one daughter, who was later Queen Victoria. He died when his daughter was six months old in 1819.
29 de may. de 2024 · Prince Edward was created Duke of Kent and Strathearn and Earl of Dublin on 23 April 1799 [2] and, a few weeks later, appointed a General and commander-in-chief of British forces in the Maritime Provinces of North America. [3] On 23 March 1802, he was appointed Governor of Gibraltar and nominally retained that post until his death.

It commemorates Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the fourth son of George III and brother of George IV (who was on the throne when the statue was erected) and William IV, as well as the father of the future Queen Victoria.
