19th October 2021. Features. REPUTATIONS. Famed for his command of HMS Cossack, Sir Philip Louis Vian was a true, if abrasive, fighting admiral, as Allan George reveals. He was the embodiment of Royal Navy spirit. His was a career that stretched from being a cadet in a pre-dreadnought battleship to Fifth Sea Lord.
Vian bekam als einziger Fifth Sea Lord den Titel, da er im Zweiten Weltkrieg für seine erfolgreiche Flottenführung ausgezeichnet worden war. Er war ferner Knight Grand Cross des Order of the Bath . Sir Philip Louis Vian ( 14. června 1894, Londýn, Anglie – 27. května 1968, Ashford Hill, Anglie) byl britský admirál.
