Hace 2 días · Roger Gale, the antiquary (1672–1744), represented the town in the Parliaments of 1705, 1707, 1708 and 1710, and Henry Lascelles, afterwards second Earl of Harewood, was returned as member in 1818. A fair here was granted in 1200 to Bishop Hugh Pudsey for the feast and morrow of St. Lawrence.

The ownership apparently passed to the earl of Ellesmere's third son, T. H. F. Egerton, who in 1925 sold it to Henry Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles, later earl of Harewood (d. 1947).
