Hace 6 días · Messier 81 was first discovered by Johann Elert Bode on 31 December 1774. Thus, it is sometimes referred to as "Bode's Galaxy". In 1779, Pierre Méchain and Charles Messier reidentified Bode's object, hence listed it in the Messier Catalogue .
Hace 1 día · This is M64, the Black Eye Galaxy, a relatively isolated spiral galaxy 17 million light-years away in the northern constellation of Coma Berenices. It was discovered by Edward Pigott in March 1779, and independently by Johann Elert Bode in April of the same year, as well as by Charles Messier the next year.

With a visual magnitude of +6.44, this is a tough object to see with the naked eye. It needs to be really dark and calm to make out the smudge of M92.
