Mary, Queen of Scots (8 December 1542 – 8 February 1587), also known as Mary Stuart [3] or Mary I of Scotland, [4] was Queen of Scotland from 14 December 1542 until her forced abdication in 1567. The only surviving legitimate child of James V of Scotland, Mary was six days old when her father died and she inherited the throne.

Hace 6 días · One of the Casket Letters describes the gift of a ring to James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell. It was said (in November 1573), that Mary gave James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell jewels worth 20 or 30,000 crowns. Bothwell was said to have left jewels given to him by Mary worth 20,000 crowns in Edinburgh Castle when he fled to Orkney.
Adam, Earl f Bothwell, succeeded his father as herditary sheriff of Edinburgh and Constable of Haddington. He was also sheriff of Berwick . He was killed at Flodden in 1513.
