Her father died just a week after her birth. Incidentally, Mary of Guise was first married to Louis D’Orleans, duc de Longueville in 1534, by whom she had two sons.

Her supporters captured the building in the three-day Siege of Inverness. For good measure the Queen had the keeper of the castle, Alexander Gordon, hanged.
