Hace 5 días · In 1560 Queen Elizabeth granted the manor for life to Anne Seymour, duchess of Somerset and widow of Protector Somerset, for £13 6s. 8d. a year and payment of the bailiffs and steward's wages. In 1570 Anne and her second husband, Francis Newdigate, were successfully prosecuted for failing to pay any rent for 10 years.
Hace 4 días · His widow Anne, duchess of Somerset (d. 1587), presented in 1554, but the advowson, unlike the manor, apparently did not pass to Seymour's son, and in 1581 the patron was Sir Richard Kingsmill. (fn. 166) In 1614 and 1633 the king exercised the patronage, but on the first occasion merely confirmed Kingsmill's presentation.

Hace 4 días · It was known as 'the Ladies' Organ' because its cost was met by ten women, including Anne, duchess of York, and Frances, duchess of Somerset. A small organ for use in the Lady Chapel was made probably in the 1660s. It fell into private hands and c. 1900 was presented to Lichfield museum by Bishop Selwyn's widow Harriet.
