Hace 3 días · The architect Charles Barry and his assistant Augustus Pugin were in charge of its design. The clock tower was completed in 1859, and on May 31 of that year Big Ben rang for the first time, marking the start of a new era.
Hace 5 días · T. L. Walker was a former pupil of Augustus Charles Pugin and a student of English medieval architecture. He professed a preference for Gothic, but his career shows that he also appreciated the Norman style, which he used at All Saints' and at the nearby Church of St. Philip, Mount Street, Bethnal Green, in 1840–2.
In 1846 it was let on a 40-year lease at a peppercorn rent by Charles Augustus Ferguson to the builder William Cubitt. It was pulled down in the 1880s or early 1890s, at which time it formed part of Providence Iron Works (see page 458), probably to make way for a new riveting shop.
