Hace 1 día · Casimir IV Jagiellon's son Saint Casimir, who was subsequently announced as patron saint of Lithuania, was a polyglot and among other languages knew Lithuanian. Grand Duke Alexander Jagiellon also could understand and speak Lithuanian as multiple Lithuanian priests served in his royal chapel and he also maintained a Lithuanian court.
Hace 5 días · In 1484 his father, the Lithuanian grand duke and Polish king Casimir IV appointed Alexander heir to the throne in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1491 the successor moved to Vilna, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Related to the Habsburg rulers of the Holy Roman Empire he was the third and last monarch on the Polish throne from the House of Vasa. He was the last ruler of Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth bearing a blood connection to the Jagiellon dynasty, through the female line.
Hace 2 días · After it was captured by Polish King Casimir IV Jagiellon in 1457 and the Peace of Thorn was established in 1466, the name was changed to Malbork Castle. Restoration of the castle began in the 19th century, and continued through much of the 20th century (with various pauses), until finished nearly two hundred years later in 2016.
