Hace 4 días · King Alfred the Great – (849 – 899) King Egbert Short Biography. Early Years. King Egbert was born around 770 the son of Ealmund of Kent; his mother’s identity is not known. When he was sixteen, in 786, King Cynewulf of Wessex was murdered. Beothric was elected to be King but Egbert believed he had a legitimate claim and contested the election.

Alfred the Great (also spelled Ælfred; c. 849 – 26 October 899) was King of the West Saxons from 871 to 886, and King of the Anglo-Saxons from 886 until his death in 899. He was the youngest son of King Æthelwulf and his first wife Osburh, who both died when Alfred was young.
