Hace 2 días · William Spencer (third son of the second Lord Spencer) and Elizabeth had a son William, who left four children—John, Charles, Alice and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married Robert Hesketh of Rufford, and her daughter and heir, the Elizabeth named in the text, married in 1714 Sir Edward Stanley, afterwards (1736–76) eleventh Earl of Derby.
Hace 3 días · After the title of Earl of Derby had been taken from the Ferrars family, it was given, with that of Lancaster, to several of the blood-royal of the Plantagenets. Melbourne Castle was one of the seats of Edmund, Earl of Lancaster. King Henry VII. conferred the title of Earl of Derby on the Stanley family, in whom it has ever since continued.
