Elizabeth married Robert Hesketh of Rufford, and her daughter and heir, the Elizabeth named in the text, married in 1714 Sir Edward Stanley, afterwards (1736–76) eleventh Earl of Derby.

Melbourne Castle was one of the seats of Edmund, Earl of Lancaster. King Henry VII. conferred the title of Earl of Derby on the Stanley family, in whom it has ever since continued.
