At the beginning of the 20th century, the territory of modern-day Baden-Württemberg consisted of the Grand Duchy of Baden, [b] the Kingdom of Württemberg [c] and the province of Hohenzollern [d] of the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1871, these had been part of the German Empire.
