It is divided into the townships of Newton-Regny and Catterlen, containing together in 1811, 44 houses, and 219 inhabitants. The manor of Newton belonged in the reign of Henry II. to the family of de Regny, whose descendant in the reign of Edward I. left four daughters coheirs.

(fn. 102) The whole manor continued to belong to the Hospital and was granted in 1547 with its other property to Sir Richard Lee, (fn. 103) who granted it at once to Henry, Earl of Arundel.

Baroness Bertha von Suttner, the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, was her paternal aunt.
