  1. Hace 5 días · In 1664 the plot west of Morice's was granted to Sir Henry Bennet, afterwards Earl of Arlington. Bennet was secretary of state and a member of the Cabal at this time. He lived at Arlington House, on the site of Buckingham Palace and used the ground in Spring Garden only for stables.

John was the brother of Henry Bennet, earl of Arlington (d. 1686), a member of the Cabal, (fn. 74) who built Ossulston House, formerly nos. 1 and 2 St. James's Square and afterwards demolished.
