Hace 3 días · The first such table was compiled by Henry Briggs in 1617, immediately after Napier's invention but with the innovation of using 10 as the base. Briggs' first table contained the common logarithms of all integers in the range from 1 to 1000, with a precision of 14 digits.

29 de may. de 2024 · In 1619, the mathematicus Edmund Gunter (1581–1626) (who I have dealt with in detail here) was appointed Gresham Professor of Mathematics, on the recommendation of Henry Briggs (1561–1630), and in 1622 he redetermined the magnetic variation of London and found it to be 6° 15′ E, significantly different to Borough’s value.

Hace 1 día · With profound sadness, we say goodbye to William Henry Briggs Jr. of Keokuk, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. William left this world on June 5, 2024 at the age of 82, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. Family and friends can send flowers and/or light a candle as a loving gesture for their loved one.
