Hace 5 días · The spire was only completed in 1791, at the expense of Sir Hew Dalrymple who was standing for election at the time. The building would have contained a jail or bridewell and courthouse, replacing the Tolbooth which had stood at the top of the Canongate.
Hace 4 días · On 26th May, 1759, Humphrey Edwin obtained a fresh lease of the northern part of Denham Buildings to hold for 22 years from 5th January, 1787, and on 4th March, 1760, assigned the premises to Sir Hew Dalrymple and his wife Martha, Humphrey's sister. In 1800 Sir Hew Dalrymple Hamilton applied for a fresh lease.
